Brad Marchand makes eye-opening admission about Team Canada role

Brad Marchand will return to Team Canada’s lineup for their quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Tuesday’s game between Czechia and Denmark. The veteran winger missed the last two preliminary-round games while managing a nagging injury that’s also kept him out recently for the Florida Panthers. Despite that, he’s ready to gut it out for his country.

Representing Canada on the international stage is an honor he cherishes, and it’s especially meaningful this time, as Marchand revealed that he didn’t even expect to be part of the action coming into Milan.

Marchand said

To be honest, coming in, I didn’t think I’d be in the lineup. I thought I’d kinda be the extra guy and be a voice. Try to be loud and obnoxious in the room. So, I mean, I’m just so proud and honoured to be part of this group,”

After not making much of an impact at the 4 Nations Face-Off, some questioned his status for the Olympics. But his performance since then has left no doubt that he not only deserved to be on the team but to play a meaningful role on it.

His 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 23 games that helped lead Florida to a second consecutive Stanley Cup, followed up by 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists) produced in the first 46 games of his 2025-26 regular-season, only confirmed that the 37-year-old wouldn’t be going anywhere.

Brad Marchand’s Line for the Quarterfinal

In his first full practice back with the team, Marchand handled left wing duties on a line with Bo Horvat and Seth Jarvis.

He spent most of the time playing alongside Horvat and Panthers teammate Sam Reinhart in Canada’s tournament opener against Czechia, with Sam Bennett having rotated in as the extra forward throughout.

Bennett and Nathan MacKinnon took practice off for maintenance, which means Tuesday’s practice lines may not reflect what we’ll see on Wednesday. The most likely scenario: Jarvis comes out, and Reinhart slides back to form the same trio with Marchand and Horvat.
