Don Sweeney has placed defenseman Alec Regula on waivers following an announcement confirmed by Elliotte Friedman.

The Boston Bruins shocked many when Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the team has placed defenseman Alec Regula on waivers.

According to insider Mark Allard, the Boston Bruins have to place Regula on waivers as he has missed the entire season so far with an injury. Now that he is healthy, he has to go through the waiver process before heading back down to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.

The Bruins acquired Regula along with defenseman Ian Mitchell when they traded Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Last offseason, the Bruins ended up signing Regula to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 AAV at the NHL level.

Since coming over to the Bruins in the trade, Regula has not played a game in the NHL, but he has been pretty decent for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.

Last year during the 2023-24 season with the Providence Bruins, Regula appeared in 55 games for the team and had four goals, 22 assists for 26 points which tied his career high in the American Hockey League, and he had a plus-36 rating.
