Former Vancouver Goalie Throws Shade at Canucks Management for Controversial Goalie Trade

Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Richard Brodeur blasted current Canucks management for trading Arturs Silovs to the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier in the summer.

A trade between the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins earlier in the summer sent goaltender Arturs Silovs, once seen as a potential goalie of the future in Vancouver, to Steel City.

The Canucks got Chase Stillman and a 4th round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft in return for Silovs.

The Canucks will be going forward with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen, who recently signed a 5 year contract, for the time being. But not everyone is happy about the move, including a former Canucks goalie.

Brodeur Says Moving Silovs Was a Mistake Despite Goalie Room Depth

Former Canucks goalie Richard Brodeur believes the trade of Silovs to the Penguins was a mistake.

That kid is ready, and he's going to have a good career, so I don't know why they let this guy go, but I'm not the management.

Brodeur played 8 years in a Canucks sweater during the 1980s.

Silovs' AHL MVP Season Makes His Trade All the More Puzzling

Silovs, who became the starter for the Canucks in the 2024 postseason thanks to Demko's injury and the struggle of now-ex Canuck Casey DeSmith, spent the majority of last year in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks.

He would lead them to the Calder Cup and even earned the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the postseason MVP.
