Jonathan Toews is set to make his NHL return this season, and now he's taken the ice for the first time with his hometown Winnipeg Jets.

This off-season has been a rather slow one around the NHL, but amidst all of that there have been some incredibly exciting moments, with the Winnipeg Jets involved in several of those.

Firstly, they saw star winger Nikolaj Ehlers officially depart the team for the Carolina Hurricanes, but then followed it up by a very exciting signing, bringing in the Manitoba native Jonathan Toews.

Toes takes the ice as the NHL season nears

Obviously, there was plenty of excitement around the Toews signing, with the three time Stanley Cup Champion set to play in the NHL for the first time since 2022/23 when he played in 53 games for the Chicago Blackhawks.

In anticipation of Toews' return to the league and the 2025/26 campaign, the Jets have posted on their social media, with a video of Toews taking the ice in the Jets uniform for the first time.

While the hockey that they play this month is only pre-season action, there's less than seven weeks until the regular season begins, with Toews set to play a key role in any success the Jets will have this upcoming year, whether that's as a second, third or even fourth line centre.

Ultimately, only time will tell if the now 37-year old can be effective in a major role for the team this season, but given his connection to the Jets, his experience and the overall talent on this team, it's no surprise that Jets fans are excited and full of hope and expectation for the upcoming season.
