Patrick Kane is on the tail-end of an incredible career, split between the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings, and he has shared a hilarious story about his former teammate Artemi Panarin.
Kane, who has been in the league for nearly two decades after being selected first overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007, is one of the most beloved players in the league. He has won three Stanley Cups, in 2010, 2013, and 2015 with the Blackhawks, and has quite the individual trophy case as well, taking home the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2016, among other awards.
His 1343 points in 1302 games were more than enough for him to be named to the NHL's 100 Greatest Players Of All Time List.
Artemi Panarin, who signed in the NHL with the Blackhawks in May of 2015 as a free agent, has 870 points in his 752 games, and played with Kane for two years in Chicago, as well as in a brief stint with the New York Rangers.
Panarin came into the league at 24, and had played several years of pro hockey in his home country before that, so the NHL's atmosphere took him off guard.
While the Blackhawks' locker room was as close as a family when Panarin was there, Patrick Kane revealed that they would fight quite a bit on the ice, and shared a story about how this dynamic affected Panarin early in his career:
'I had a funny story about Panarin. I would get on him a lot to start the season, and he said he would be up all night thinking about how he wanted to come in the next day and jack me in the face. I'd see him in the morning"'I'd be like, 'What's up, Breadman?' He'd be like, a weight dropped off. 'Hey, what's going on?' I feel like guys are more, especially nowadays, complimentary a little bit to the point where it throws me off a little bit,' Kane said.
Panarin and Kane are 33 and 36 respectively, but are still among the best wingers in the NHL. Unfortunately, however, it is unlikely we will ever see them play together again.
