Penguins Recall Drew O'Connor from AHL
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins are recalling Drew O’Connor from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins the day after sending him down.

O’Connor was re-assigned, along with Drake Caggiula, by the Penguins ahead of the trade deadline in a mostly paper move.

Sending O’Connor to a minor league roster by a certain time yesterday meant the Penguins had a little extra cap space and made him eligible for AHL playoffs.

This move was also expected, as general manager Ron Hextall stated that O’Connor would be brought back to the NHL roster ahead of the Penguins matchup against the Florida Panthers.

O’Connor has been making a name for himself this season as a great option within the Penguins bottom six and is riding a run of three points in four games.

In a career-high 27 games played this season, O’Connor has scored five goals and recorded three assists for eight points.

O’Connor still averages just over nine minutes per game, but is taking full advantage of his opportunity.
