Report: Devils Owner Joins NHL’s Executive Committee
Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

According to a report by Elliotte Friedman, a New Jersey Devils Owner has joined the NHL’s Executive Committee.

Also serving as New Jersey’s Chairman and Governor, David Blitzer is replacing the late Rocky Hirwitz.

According to Friedman, ” He joins chairman Jeremy Jacobs (Boston); Mark Chipman (Winnipeg); Murray Edwards (Calgary); Craig Leipold (Minnesota); Ted Leonsis (Washington); Geoff Molson (Montreal); Henry Samueli (Anaheim); Larry Tanenbaum (Toronto) and Jeff Vinik (Tampa Bay).”

Led by Commissioner Gary Bettman, the executive committee handles a plethora of issues. Such issues include vetting new ownership applications, collective bargaining, league expansion, and more. Some of the recent major decisions the executive committee took part in are the approval of expansion to Seattle (thus the Seattle Kraken), the sale of the Ottawa Senators to Michael Andlauer, and the approval of a sale of a small portion of stake in the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment company.

The Devils owner will now share the responsibility in making such decisions for the National Hockey League.

As the co-founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, Blitzer became the first person to hold team equity in the five major sports leagues of North America. the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLS, and MLB
