The Dallas Stars dropped Game 5 to the Winnipeg Jets, sending their second-round playoff series back to Dallas for Game 6. Winnipeg opened the scoring in the second period and never looked back in front of their home fans.
Winnipeg played more desperately than the Stars, and forced the series to extend, at least for one more game. The Stars were only able to get 22 shots off against the Jets, with the Winnipeg defense shutting things down.
Dallas went scoreless in Game 5, but Stars head coach Peter DeBoer isn't exactly sure that offense should be the only focus from the game. DeBoer referenced the Edmonton Oilers' 1-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
"Everyone makes a big deal about scoring," DeBoer said. "Vegas gets eliminated (Wednesday) by Edmonton in a 0-0 game, you know? It's 1-0 in overtime and you've got two of the greatest offensive players in the world on the ice (Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl). If you throw (Golden Knights forward) Jack Eichel in, maybe three of the top five or six. So, you have to be comfortable and it's OK that you're not scoring, that you're still finding ways to win."
Dallas will look to produce more offense in Game 6, and if they can, they could be in good shape. Winnipeg is also 0-5 on the road in the playoffs.
If the Jets can finally get a road win in the postseason, Game 7 will be played back at home. But the Stars are looking to advance to the next round to take on the Oilers in a rematch of last year's Western Conference Final.
Game 6 between these two teams is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at 8 p.m. ET.
