Oilers forward Zach Hyman, who was hurt in the WCF against Dallas and unavailable for the SCF rematch against Florida, isn't sure of his status for Edmonton's opening night.

The Edmonton Oilers suffered a major blow when they lost Zach Hyman during the WCF against the Dallas Stars to a wrist injury. He was unable to play in the SCF against the Florida Panthers, who won their 2nd straight Stanley Cup over the Oilers.

Many feel the series could have ended differently had Hyman been playing, and right now, he's not sure if he'll be available for the start of the new season.

Hyman Reflects on Painful Playoff Exit and Mental Battle from the Sidelines

Hyman was in Calgary recently for Canada's Orientation Camp for the Winter Olympics, and said that he's not sure if he'll be healthy enough to play for Edmonton when their new year begins next month.

Will I be ready for the start of the season? I don't know. But I'm on the right track, which is good. The fact that I don't know is a good thing because it could be, 'No I'm not.' [I] have one more meeting with the surgeon to wrap it up, which is great.

He also admitted he struggled with the fact that he wasn't available to play with his teammates in their SCF rematch against Florida.

It was miserable. It's very horrible, very hard. No matter what, you're stressed, whether you're up or down. You have no control and you're helpless. At the same time, you're trying to keep it all together and be supportive for the guys who are playing.

Olympic Motivation Fuels Hyman's Push for Return Ahead of 2026 Games

Hyman would love to show Canada why they were wrong to not include him in the 4 Nations Faceoff roster by earning a spot on the team for the February Olympics.

Hyman, who had 54 goals in 2023-24, got off to a slow start last year and didn't score until October 31, the 11th game of the season.
