Could Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill soon land with AFC team?

After a disastrous start for the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Tyreek Hill may become a trade candidate. Expect an AFC North team to explore acquiring the star pass-catcher.

In a column published Wednesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler speculated the Pittsburgh Steelers want to add another WR, perhaps Hill if he becomes available.

"The Steelers could have one more move in them, and I'd be willing to bet they'd at least be willing to have a conversation on Tyreek Hill if Miami engaged," Fowler wrote.

Don't the Steelers already have a No. 1 WR?

In March, the Seattle Seahawks dealt WR DK Metcalf to the Steelers. He's one reason they're 2-1. Through three games, the 27-year-old ranks third on the team in receptions (10) and second in receiving yards (135). He's also tied with WR Calvin Austin III for first in touchdown catches (two).

Still, except for Metcalf, the Steelers lack dependable targets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Pittsburgh ranks 24th in the league in passing yards (184 YPG) and 16th in yards per pass attempt (6.8). More importantly, Hill does certain things more effectively than Metcalf, such as route running.

Per Pro Football Focus, Hill has averaged 2.15 yards per route run through three games, the league's 20th-best mark (min. seven targets). Metcalf, meanwhile, is 73rd in Y/RR (1.45). (Yards per route run divides receiving yards by the number of routes a player runs to measure his efficiency.)

Will Dolphins put Tyreek Hill on the trade block?

The 0-3 Dolphins are reportedly not considering trading Hill, but that could change if the team keeps sinking before the Nov. 4 trade deadline (4 p.m. ET). Miami may be entering rebuilding mode if it misses the playoffs again, and dealing Hill could help it acquire valuable draft capital.

The WR has been attempting to repair his fractured relationship with the Dolphins, but he's clearly having a challenging time doing so. In a Week 1 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, CBS cameras caught him yelling at an assistant coach on the sideline.

It may be time for Hill and Miami to admit it's time to split up. And Pittsburgh may be a solid destination for the eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl LIV champion.
