Oklahoma State reaches deal to bring back Mike Gundy as HC

Despite a 3-9 record in 2024, Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Gundy have reached an agreement for him to return as the program's head coach for a 21st season in 2025.

Gundy's new deal reportedly (via ESPN) comes with a restructuring that will see his $7.75 million annual salary be reduced and redistributed as part of revenue sharing with players.

His buyout will also be reduced. Under his previous deal, he would have been owed $25.3 million if he was fired without cause. There is no official word on what his new buyout will be.

Gundy has been Oklahoma State's head coach since the 2005 season and put together 18 consecutive winning seasons between 2006 and 2023.

That run ended this season with a 3-9 mark, which is the program's worst record since an 0-10-1 season all the way back in 1991.

Along with that run of sustained success, Gundy is also the winningest coach in Oklahoma State history.

Gundy's best season came in 2011 when Oklahoma State went 12-1, won the Big 12 and also won the Fiesta Bowl, finishing the season as the No. 3 team in the AP poll.
