As the top two picks in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink will be forever linked.
The two young stars have known each other for a while and have made it clear they are friends off the court. Before their first WNBA matchup back in May, Clark said she was pumped to face one of her USA Basketball teammates.
"I'm excited. Cam has been one of my friends for a really long time going back to USA Basketball. She was my roommates when we were like 18 years old. I've known her for a very long time," Clark told reporters. "Obviously, great family and great person. I'm happy for her. Obviously, she's had a tremendous start to her career. It'll be fun getting to go up against her."
On Tuesday, Brink supported Clark when the Indiana Fever superstar was announced as TIME Magazine's Athlete of the Year. Clark appeared on the cover, which Brink acknowledged in her Instagram story congratulating the former Iowa standout.
"Congrats MODELLLL," Brink wrote, tagging Clark in the story.
This isn't the first time Brink has backed Clark publicly. In an interview with Uproxx in early June, Brink sympathized with the pressure Clark was facing in her first season.
"Oh, that’s a great question. The most tired narrative is that the vets are against the rookies — this old-school versus new-school narrative — and the narrative that the rookies need to be perfect," Brink said. "I feel like Caitlin Clark has that the worst right now, but even I get that. She had three points the other night [against New York on June 2]. I had three points the other night [against Indiana on May 28]. We’re expected to be perfect. We were drafted to high-drafting teams coming off of losing seasons, which is fine."
Two weeks later, Brink suffered a season-ending ACL injury, which Clark called "devastating" news when speaking with reporters.
"I know she's the type of person that'll be able to get through it and come out stronger, but it breaks your heart. She's such a good basketball player, but she's an even better person," Clark said.
Clark and Brink will face off for the first time in 2025 when the Fever take on the Los Angeles Sparks in June.
