San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will be limited for the start of the team's training camp as he continues to recover from injuries suffered in a car crash on July 14. The team made the announcement on Saturday, saying Shanahan suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck but was taken to the hospital, where he spent the remainder of that day.
The team also announced that the other driver in the crash was also doing well, and that drugs or alcohol did not play a factor.
No citations were issued.
49ers general manager John Lynch said the main concern for Shanahan at this point is a concussion, and that he has not yet been cleared from the concussion protocol.

Lynch acknowledged it's kind of a weird situation because they are not used to having to deal with coaches or personnel as part of the protocol.
Lynch said Shanahan is still dealing with some effects from the concussion.
Along with the concussion, he also suffered a broken nose, broke three ribs, as well as his hand, while also needing 40 stitches to his face.
Shanahan has been the 49ers head coach since the start of the 2017 season, compiling an 82-67 regular-season record since then. He has led the team to the playoffs five times in those nine years, reaching two Super Bowls.
The 49ers were 12-5 during the 2025 season before losing in the divisional round.
