NFL teams under the most pressure to win big in 2026

With some NFL training camps already open and others set to get underway, the 2026 season is fast approaching. Fans and media will soon have the answers to the questions and speculation about what will happen this fall. 

But with the new season on the horizon and the offseason movement in the rearview mirror, it's already clear which teams are facing the most pressure to win and achieve a high level of success right out of the gate. 

Los Angeles Rams 

Any team with the reigning MVP in his later years that's coming off an appearance in the NFC Championship Game would be under pressure to capitalize on its remaining window. However, the pressure on the Rams skyrocketed after acquiring Myles Garrett months removed from breaking the single-season sacks record. 

Los Angeles also added Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson to help bolster their defense even more. 

There's a belief that Aaron Donald is going to come out of retirement to rejoin the Rams and form an unstoppable pass rushing duo on the opposite side of Garrett. 

So after fixing all of of their past problems on defense, a Rams team led by Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, who have proven they can win a championship together once before, has only one goal in mind - win the whole thing again. 

It's a completely "championship or bust" situation for the Rams in 2026. 

Buffalo Bills 

Also perpetually dealing with Super Bowl expectations, the Bills have a loyal fanbase that's tired of waiting to get their hands on a Lombardi Trophy. And unlike in recent seasons, 2026 will mark the dawning of a new era for Buffalo with Joe Brady now at the helm in replace of Sean McDermott. 

While it might be fair to give any new coach a season to truly implement his culture, Brady won't have that luxury due to the need to take advantage of Josh Allen's prime. 

Now 30, Allen has a resume already worthy of Canton - he already has 30,102 passing yards and 299 total touchdowns and was named the 2024 NFL MVP. However, the Bills are only 8-7 in the playoffs with Allen. 

Football is a team sport and it's not fair to put everything on one player, even the quarterback, but the pressure is firmly on Allen and the Bills to reach a Super Bowl as soon as possible in order to not endure a "what if?" looming over his legacy forever. 

Cincinnati Bengals 

It's easy to determine why the Bengals have missed the playoffs in three straight years - Joe Burrow's injuries and struggles on defense. But after shoring up the defense with additions like Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen, Boye Mafe and Bryan Cook and Burrow appearing fully healthy, Cincinnati appears poised to get back to where the team was four season ago and make another Super Bowl run. 

Burrow himself has even added fuel to fire by comparing the feeling he has about the 2026 Bengals to how he felt about his 2019 LSU team that won the national championship. 

To Burrow's credit, he still has Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins around as his main weapons. If the defense can even improve slightly, there's no reason the Bengals can't contend in a wide open AFC North. 

Burrow has to stay healthy and the offensive line has to make that their main mission. 

Detroit Lions 

Once the toast of the NFL, the Lions have fallen off a bit in recent years. Detroit missed the postseason in 2025 after losing in the divisional round the season prior and the NFC Championship Game in January of 2024. 

Jared Goff has still put up numbers - he's exceeded 4,000 yards passing in each of the last four seasons - but the decline of the defense, which just ranked 18th as a unit, has hurt the team's chances as a whole. 

Having been so close with Goff, there's pressure on Dan Campbell to get the job done. Because if not now, when for a Lions franchise that's one of only four without at least one Super Bowl appearance.
