Stan Kroenke will bring championship pedigree to Angels as new owner

Adding another Los Angeles-based franchised to his portfolio, Stan Kroenke has reached an agreement to purchase the Los Angeles Angels. 

As reported on Tuesday, Kroenke, 79, who also owns the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, NBA's Denver Nuggets, NHL's Colorado Avalanche and a myriad of professional franchise around the world, will take over for Arte Moreno, creating an interesting transition for one of Major League Baseball's floundering franchises.

While financial details have yet to be unveiled, Kroenke's tenure as owner of the Angels is expected to become official in the first quarter of the 2027 calendar year, pending approval by the other MLB owners. 

The move will mark the end of Moreno’s 23-year long ownership, having bought the Angels in 2003. And even though the Angels won the franchise's first World Series title in the season that preceded Moreno and then enjoyed winning six division titles (2004-05, ’07-09 and ’14) early on, his legacy as owner will undoubtedly be tied to the lack of team success during Mike Trout's legendary career.

With Trout, Los Angeles has only reached the playoffs once and hasn't finished a season with a winning record since 2015. They are currently tied as the worst team in the American League in 2026 at 53-85 through the end of August.
