Colts are facing an unwanted situation with Alec Pierce’s injury

The Indianapolis Colts have their backs against the wall amid an ugly start to their 2026 season, and the latest update on wide receiver Alec Pierce isn’t making the team feel better about their outlook.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Colts are facing the prospect of losing Pierce’s services for several weeks after the wideout aggravated a heel injury in Indianapolis’ 33-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Pierce went down with the injury in the second quarter and was carted to the locker room. Before he left, he recorded just a catch on a single target for 11 receiving yards. The former Cincinnati Bearcats star wide receiver’s injury is on the same heel that went under the knife in March.

Rapoport also reported that Pierce is putting off surgery for now, with rehab currently an option.

Pierce’s injury is a big blow to the Colts, who are 0-2 through two weeks of football. They signed him to a 4-year, $114 million contract in March, but he’ll be helplessly watching his team play for at least the next several weeks.

In an attempt to soften the blow of Pierce’s absence, the Colts signed wide receiver Darius Slayton to a contract. Slayton is a familiar face for Indianapolis quarterback Daniel Jones, as the two played together with the New York Giants.
