Legendary SEC coach Steve Spurrier predicts SEC upset for the ages

The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in the nation, and they're the pride of the SEC.

That idea still takes some getting used to: The Horns being in the SEC. They came over with the Oklahoma Sooners ahead of the 2024 season, and although they're technically now in their third SEC campaign, they're still "babies" as it relates to the conference, where "it just means more."

Before that, Texas was in the Big 12 from 1996 to 2023.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Volunteers have been a member of the SEC since its inception in 1933. The Vols are as SEC as they come, and they've won the conference 13 times alongside two national championships.

Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, is also an iconic college football location. Rocky Top runs deep in college football lore.

So perhaps that's why another SEC legend, Steve Spurrier, believes the No. 14 Volunteers are going to pull off a legendary upset this weekend when they play host to the top-ranked Longhorns.

“I think Tennessee is ready to pull the upset over Texas,” Spurrier told Chris Low of On3. The Vols can beat them in Knoxville.”

Spurrier believes that Josh Heupel's team can use its home-field advantage to its...well... advantage. For what it's worth, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also respects what the Tennessee fans can bring to the table.
