'Am told' – Journalist reveals how Levi Colwill’s return to action for Chelsea’s under-21s went

Levi Colwill made his return to action as he played 60 minutes for Chelsea’s under-21s in a behind closed doors friendly on Friday according to journalist Simon Johnson.

The England international hasn’t featured this season after suffering an ACL injury before the start of the campaign.

Colwill is now back in full training, but it’s unclear whether he’ll make a return to the first team before the end of the season.

Levi Colwill plays for Chelsea under-21s

Chelsea have paid the price for not signing a replacement for Colwill, and have struggled defensively this season.

The Blues have conceded 34 goals following Rosenior’s arrival in January, and have lost their last two league games 3-0.

Colwill played an important role at the end of last season to help Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, and win both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

Liam Rosenior suggested Colwill would get minutes for the under-21s as he continues to step up his recovery, and Johnson has provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“Am told Colwill played 60 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly for u-21s today.

“All went well. More good news for #CFC. But as Rosenior makes clear, his return to the first team won’t be rushed…understandably everyone wants to make sure he’s fully good to go.”

In others news…

Following Moises Caicedo’s contract extension, Colwill is thought to be next in line and is reportedly expected to sign a deal into the 2030s.

Colwill is a product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy and has made 75 appearances for his boyhood club to date, with hopefully many more to come.
