Andy Carroll has explained joining L2 Amiens in France.

The centre-forward broke his contract with Reading to join Amiens as a free agent. He has penned a two-year deal.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle striker said: "I had many options from many countries, including in England. When I spoke to John (Williams, the sporting director) I came here straight away and looked at the city and the club.

"I knew it was the place I wanted to play.

"It was by talking to John and my teammates that I made the decision to come here. It's a good club, a family club with fantastic facilities."
