Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi says his club’s “position was always clear” during the transfer soap opera with Ademola Lookman and Inter Milan.
Percassi gave his thoughts on the transfer saga in a press conference before La Dea’s Serie A match against Parma today, via FCInterNews.
Ademola Lookman is still an Atalanta player.
For several weeks, Inter very publicly pursued the 27-year-old, in what turned out to be the transfer soap opera of the summer in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri reportedly went as high as around €45 million with their offer for Lookman.
However, La Dea made clear that they are not keen to sell the former Leicester City and Fulham forward.
Therefore, Atalanta never gave Inter a counteroffer to base any subsequent bids on.
And in the meantime, Lookman very publicly tried to force his club’s hand. The Nigerian deleted all traces of Atalanta from his social media accounts, made a public transfer request, and no-showed training for several weeks.
Despite all of Lookman’s antics this summer, the 27-year-old has remained an Atalanta player.
There are still a couple days left to go in the summer transfer window. However, if Lookman does not leave Atalanta before deadline day, then the question will become where he and his club go from here.
As far as La Dea CEO Luca Percassi is concerned, “our position was always very clear.”
“Now we’ll see what happens next,” the executive added. “But we don’t expect any major changes.”
