Fabrizio Romano Reports Real Madrid Are Looking to Extend the Contracts of Two Players
IMAGO / Sportimage

Real Madrid have already started doing significant work in the transfer market. They have wrapped up Trent Alexander-Arnold's signature on a free transfer from Liverpool, and added Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono to the team.

Apart from the incoming players, Los Blancos are also looking to sort out the contracts of the players they already have. An agreement with Brahim Diaz is close, with the Morocco international set to renew his deal, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports.

Diaz has a deal until 2027 and has so far scored 20 goals and set up 19 more in 117 appearances. Los Blancos are looking to tie down the 25-year-old to an even longer-term deal. After Diaz, renewing Thibaut Courtois' contract is on Real Madrid's priority list, as Romano has reported. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

Real Madrid are in advanced talks over new deal with Brahim Díaz. The player has already said yes to staying and extending.

Agreement almost reached with talks underway for 2 weeks.

Next one: Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois has been a key player for Los Blancos since his 2018 move from Chelsea. When fit, he is the first choice between the sticks and has so far made 282 appearances, keeping 111 clean sheets. At 33, Courtois still has a lot left to offer.

Last season, the Belgian once again showed his mettle, keeping 15 clean sheets in 47 appearances across competitions. His current deal runs until 2026, and Los Blancos seem keen on keeping him beyond that period.

The team are set to start a new chapter under Xabi Alonso and the June 18 game against Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup is the first game under the Spaniard.

Keenan Allen's return to Bears seems possible now

Following the selections of tight end Colston Loveland in the first round and wide receiver Luther Buden III in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, it seemed that the idea of Keenan Allen’s return to the Chicago Bears for the upcoming season was dead. Last year, the Bears traded a fourth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for Allen to come to Chicago on the final season of his contract. Allen said he planned to choose between the Bears and a team in Los Angeles during free agency this offseason. The Bears are looking for a wide receiver No team has signed the veteran receiver. Allen is coming off a season where he recorded 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. The Bears signaled they’re not done looking for wide receiver help before training camp practice begins on Wednesday. On Monday, reports surfaced that Chicago visited with former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver DJ Chark. Chark met with the Bears NFL.com's Christian Gonzales suggested that Chark could be available for the Chargers after Mike Williams announced his retirement from the league last week. “There is an opening for Chark to pursue a possible reunion with the Chargers after veteran wide receiver Mike Williams informed the team this week that he is retiring from the NFL," wrote Gonzales. “Only time will tell if Chark gets a call from the Bolts or another team in search of a crafty veteran wideout. If he does, Chark says he’s still staying in shape.” Allen’s name immediately came up as an option for the Chargers when Williams’ announcement became public. If the Chargers decide to give quarterback Justin Herbert a familiar pass catcher by signing Chark, it would make sense for Allen to be in the mix to join the Bears in 2025. After all, the Bears let the league and Allen’s agent know they’re looking for a veteran receiver.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin's Secret Comments About George Pickens Exposed By ESPN Analyst

The Pittsburgh Steelers, in back-to-back offseasons, traded away a talented wide receiver. Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the team made the surprising decision to move on from Diontae Johnson, sending him to the Carolina Panthers. It was a bold move that left questions about depth behind George Pickens, but the Steelers appeared to have a long-term plan in mind. This week, fans got a clearer picture. ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky had told Louis Riddick a story and Riddick exposed it on Get Up on Wednesday and shared a never-before-told story about Head Coach Mike Tomlin’s relationship with Pickens. According to Riddick, Tomlin once passionately defended his coaching approach to Orlovsky when questioned about how he handled Pickens, offering a glimpse into the challenges the Steelers faced behind closed doors. "I sat in a TV production meeting where Mike Tomlin chastised Dan Orlovsky for asking about George Pickens and why George Pickens wasn't maybe being reprimanded a little bit harsher," Riddick said. "And Mike in no uncertain terms, said, 'Look, you don't give up on talent like this at this point.' So trust me, he knew what he had on his hands, too. As far as the upside of this young man." While the full story behind Pickens’ departure may never be known, it’s becoming increasingly clear that off-field concerns weighed heavily on Tomlin’s mind. The Steelers knew Pickens was a rare talent, and that’s why Tomlin didn’t punish him as much as he probably could have. It wasn’t because he thought Pickens was good enough to get away with it, but because his coaching style is different for every player. In Tomlin’s mind, he still had faith that Pickens would mature, but it appears that growth just didn’t happen fast enough. "We were all, were like, whoa," Riddick said of the panels reaction to Tomlin's secret comments in that production meeting. "Mike was not playing around. He was like, 'Y'all know how this business works now.'" Riddick described the moment as tense, and as the quotes are now being shared, Steelers fans are likely picturing exactly how that meeting went down. Tomlin is known for being a direct, no-nonsense leader. If something bothers him, he speaks up, and it appears he did not appreciate being questioned by Orlovsky about his coaching style when it came to Pickens. Steelers Fans Starting To Understand More Details Behind The George Pickens Trade According to Riddick, Tomlin firmly defended his approach during the exchange. He explained that his coaching style depends on the individual player, and with Pickens, he chose to be patient rather than overly critical. Tomlin believed Pickens could grow with time and guidance. In his mind, treating every player the same does not always produce the best results, and he trusted that Pickens would eventually mature. Despite Tomlin’s belief in his potential, that growth never fully happened. As a result, the Steelers chose to make a change. With Pickens now gone and Metcalf brought in to lead the wide receiver room, Pittsburgh is turning the page. Still, the story behind Pickens’ exit is one that will stick with fans, especially as more behind-the-scenes details continue to surface.

Golden State Warriors Predicted to Land $70 Million Sharpshooter in Jonathan Kuminga Trade

The Golden State Warriors have had an underwhelming offseason thus far and the main headline surrounding the franchise remains the future of young forward Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga remains a restricted free agent and after falling out of Steve Kerr’s rotation last season, his role entering next season is up in the air. Due to this, many believe that Kuminga’s time in Golden State is set to come to an end this offseason but the young forward is still deciding on what his next move will be, which will also be reliant on the Warriors due to them likely having to move him in a sign-and-trade deal. With Kuminga’s time in Golden State likely nearing an end, Sports Illustrated’s Jackson Caudell and Rohan Raman recently came up with a three-team mock trade that would send Kuminga to the Phoenix Suns. In the trade, the Suns would receive Kuminga and Moses from the Warriors and they would send Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neal and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick to Golden State. The Atlanta Hawks are the third team in this mock trade and they would acquire Nick Richards from Phoenix. This would be an interesting move for the Warriors as they would not only be moving on from a young player in Kuminga, but Moses Moody as well. Despite this, adding a sharpshooting guard in Grayson Allen, who also excels on the defensive end, could be a massive boost that the Warriors need. O’Neal would also give the Warriors a solid scorer and defender at the forward position that would allow them to upgrade their bench. By making this move, the Warriors would get older as they would swap two young players for two veterans but the additions of Allen and O’Neal, along with potential free agent signings, could help them compete for a title next season with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler leading the way.

Steelers' Omar Khan Claims Pittsburgh May Now Add At Safety Via Free Agency Or Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely have one of the better defensive units in all of football to kickoff the 2025 NFL season. After an offseason that featured multiple key moves on both sides of the ball, Pittsburgh finds themselves with significant upgrades in the secondary. The Steelers acquired superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for veteran free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, as Ramsey is expected to play a crucial role on the Steelers' defense this season. Many feel as if the Steelers are still lacking depth at safety, as Fitzpatrick was expected to be the starting free safety entering 2025. Juan Thornhill may emerge as a legitimate starting option, as the former Cleveland Browns defensive back will look to make a strong impact throughout training camp. Thornhill has been plagued with injuries over the course of the past two seasons, as the veteran will look to get back to playing at a high level once again this season in Pittsburgh. As speculation continues to surround the Steelers' depth at safety, General Manager Omar Khan took a moment to speak with the media on Wednesday regarding the position. "We signed Juan, that's not to say that we won't look at what else is out there," Khan stated. Khan then went on to speak about Pittsburgh's plan throughout training camp, as the team is expected to take their time in evaluating the depth on the roster. "Part of training camp is for us to figure out and get to know what we have and see how those rules are going to come together," Khan continued. Khan's comments should not be considered as surprising by many, as Thornhill's decline and injury history over the past few seasons may result in the veteran being a questionable starting option. Thornhill thrived during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, as the veteran played a key role in two of the Chiefs' Super Bowl runs from past seasons. Thornhill remains as a starting option at safety for the time being, as many feel like Pittsburgh will add depth at the position in the near future. Ramsey continues to emerge as a starting option at safety as well, as the veteran cornerback has been rumored to take snaps at free safety throughout training camp. Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, is an elite cornerback who is widely regarded as one of the better defensive players in all of football. Ramsey may be faced with a major role off the field as well, as the veteran is expected to be an excellent mentor for younger defensive backs in the Steelers' secondary. Other Steelers Veterans Expected To Play An Additional Off Field Role With training camp officially underway, the Steelers will have a better understanding as to where the depth on the defense stands in the near future. Multiple veterans are expected to pick up where they left off in 2024, as superstar defensive lineman Cam Heyward will look to add to an already impressive resume throughout 2025. Also a seven-time Pro Bowler, Heyward has been a crucial piece on the Steelers' defensive line throughout his entire career. Heyward could play a key role off the field as well, as the veteran is expected to aid rookie Derrick Harmon in his development throughout the season. Harmon, a first-round selection out of Oregon, is a talented defensive lineman who was widely considered as one of the top defensive talents from the 2024 class. Harmon's potential is limitless, as playing alongside Heyward will almost certainly make the rookie a better player over time. As questions surrounding the Steelers' depth at safety remain at large, the team is expected to evaluate the talent at the position throughout training camp. Thornhill remains as a solid starting option, but injuries over the past few seasons suggest otherwise. With opening week continuing to grow closer, the team is expected to have a better understanding of where they stand at the position sooner rather than later.
