Gittens and Garnacho both 'raw' and Pedro Neto must think he smells – Pundits on Chelsea’s window

We’ve already covered ESPN’s freakout about the Nicolas Jackson move to Bayern Munich – but what to they make of the Alejandro Garnacho move to Chelsea?

Gab and Jules run the rule over Garnacho move

The Gab and Jules show rattled through all of the Blues’ summer move and had a chat about the Argentine winger’s arrival, which took until Sunday to completed despite having been rumoured way back in January.

They had some interesting thoughts on the move, which they largely reserved judgment on. Julien Laurens pointed out it was unfortunate the transfer had taken so long:

“They wanted him from the beginning yet it took until August 30th to sign him. I don’t know whether that says more about Chelsea or Man United,” Laurens said.

To be fair to Chelsea, from our perspective it looked like they they had the deal with United and Garnacho done a long time ago – it was just a question of getting a buyer for Christopher Nkunku. Once his AC Milan move was in place, the Blues pulled the trigger.

Pedro Neto left wondering what he’s done wrong as Chelsea stack alternatives

In general they questioned the logic of signing both Garnacho and Gittens to play the same position, when they are both at a similar stage in their career:

“Until [Garnacho] plays we can’t really judge. I like Garnacho I’ve always liked him. But he’s raw. As is Gittens. So let’s see,” Laurens said.

“I wonder what [existing left wing option] Pedro Neto is thinking about all this? ‘Do I smell?'” Gab Marcotti joked.

Gittens has already fallen out of favour somewhat, with Enzo Maresca favouring Neto on the left and Estevao Willian on the right and Joao Pedro playing off Liam Delap in recent games.

With Delap now out, it will be interesting to see who comes in.
