Tottenham have managed to obtain the services of Xavi Simons after the talented attacker relayed his desire of a summer switch from RB Leipzig after last season ended. The Netherlands international wanted to play Champions League football this season, and that was not possible at Leipzig after the club missed out on European football altogether.
This caught the attention of the Lilywhites, as well as, Chelsea as they both battled it out for the 22-year-old’s signature. At one point, it looked likely that Simons was heading to Stamford Bridge after agreeing personal terms with the Blues. However, the deal stalled for one reason or another, giving the North London club a chance to secure his signature before the transfer window shut shop.
Signing for Spurs is a massive move for the talented attacker as he looks to prove his worth in the Premier League. The Dutchman said in his first interview for the Lilywhites that the project outlined by Thomas Frank was suited for him, and he believed that playing for the Lilywhites was the best decision for his footballing career. Fans will hope that the 22-year-old can play an important role under the Danish tactician this season.
It is fair to say that Tottenham managed to save face in the transfer market by signing Xavi Simons out of nowhere last week. The Dutchman is seen as one of the best talents in Europe currently. And fans cannot wait to see the youngster don the Lilywhite jersey week in week out in the Premier League. And one may also suggest that moving to N17 is the right decision as he would significantly develop his game under Thomas Frank.
Now, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has shared his thoughts on Simons’ move to Spurs. Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Koeman said,
“In June, he already outlined his options and wishes to me. Last week, he told me it had become Tottenham Hotspur. A fantastic club for him, in my opinion. You always have to wait and see, of course, but this seems like a wonderful step for him.”
Ronald Koeman believes Tottenham is a ‘fantastic’ club for Xavi Simons to continue his development. It is fair to say that the Netherlands manager is pleased that the 22-year-old chose to go to North London instead of Chelsea, as he would play week in week out at N17 and become the face of the project under Thomas Frank. Not only that, but the ex-RB Leipzig player would also come up against elite players regularly.
Now, Simons would like to showcase his skills on the pitch and prove his worth by performing consistently for the Lilywhites. Thomas Frank is looking to build on the Europa League success this season, and it is fair to suggest that the Dutchman is going to be one of the first names on the team-sheet when the going gets tough.
