Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson could be playing his final season for the famous Merseyside club. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season and the club yet to open talks, his future hasn’t been decided.

Robertson has been a mainstay presence at Liverpool since arriving from Hull City in Jul. 2017. He is currently the club's vice-captain, second in line behind first-choice captain Virgil van Dijk.

The 31-year-old has made 354 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. He is currently competing with £40 million summer signing Milos Kerkez for a starting place.

Though Kerkez was initially preferred by head coach Arne Slot, Robertson has started in recent key matches against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

On Jan. 1, Robertson will be free to speak with clubs outside of England and could potentially sign a pre-contract agreement to leave Anfield.

Robertson opted to stay with Liverpool after Atletico Madrid showed interest in him during the summer. It’s possible that a long list of clubs will target the Scottish captain should he not be offered a new deal.

He spoke about his future in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.

“I think last season everyone was bored of talking about the three lads [Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold], but for me the relationship between me and the club has been a wonderful one,” Robertson said.

“They've done everything for me in terms of me and my family. I think I've not been too bad for them in terms of signing from Hull for £8 million and what I've done. Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors and I'm relaxed about the whole situation. If it is my last year, then it's my last year. If it's not, then so be it.”

Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate is facing a similar situation. His contract also expires at the end of the current season.

The 26-year-old French international has been frequently linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, recent reports from French outlet L’Equipe claimed that Liverpool have made a new offer and the Reds are “confident” of Konate renewing his contract.

Robertson’s future is less clear, given his age and the arrival of Kerkez. His situation at Liverpool will be closely tracked by clubs wishing to sign him as January nears.
