Manchester United and Adidas have unveiled the club’s new third kit for the 2025/26 season, drawing clear inspiration from the designs of the 1990s.

Every summer, fans get excited about the release of new jerseys, and many opt to get their favourite players’ names on the back.

Adidas remains United’s main shirt sponsor, with a 10-year extension signed in June 2023 keeping them on board until at least 2035. The home kit for the upcoming campaign was launched first, featuring a classic red design with white logos and black accents.

The away kit followed in July, introducing a white base accented by plum and lilac tones with metallic details. This design also swapped out the full club crest for just the devil logo.

United’s third kit pays tribute to a classic

The third kit is predominantly dark green with gold accents. The most notable feature is its pattern of diagonal stripes across both sides of the shirt. This look mirrors one of Manchester United’s kits from back in 1994/95 when Umbro was still making their kits.

While that kit had a lighter shade of green than what Adidas has gone for here, it still feels like an appropriate modern twist on an all-time classic design. Fans have been loving it so far too, which is great to see after some concerns were raised over Manchester United’s home kit this year.

Manchester United unveil third kit for 2025/26 season

United have unveiled their new third kit for the 2025/26 season. The design is a nod to the past, featuring a black base with yellow accents and the clover logo on the crest. Adidas describes it as a clear throwback to 90s style.

This colour scheme was last seen between 1993 and 1995, a period that brings back mixed memories for fans. It’s also tied to one of the club’s greatest achievements – their first Double in the 1993/94 season.

Thirty years later, United will be wearing similar colours again, hoping this time it’s remembered more for what happens on the pitch than anything else.

When will Man Utd wear the third kit?

For the second year running, United’s third kit will feature the Adidas Trefoil logo. The home shirt is expected to be worn for the first two away fixtures against Fulham and Manchester City.

That will change later in September when United face Brentford, where they’ll switch to the black third kit.

The third kit is also scheduled to be used in matches against Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Arsenal and Sunderland during the season. Additional appearances could depend on cup draws for the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Berbatov fronts campaign for new third kit

Dimitar Berbatov has been chosen to star in the promotional advert for Manchester United’s new third kit, a nod to the early 90s era.

Rather than featuring players from the 1993-95 seasons, United opted to go with someone from a more recent era who still holds a strong connection with fans.

Berbatov played four seasons at Old Trafford between 2008 and 2012, picking up two Premier League titles during his time with the club.

The Bulgarian’s presence brings a modern touch to a retro design, and his appearance in the advert has gone down well with supporters. The advert itself is simple but effective, fitting well with Berbatov’s style both on and off the pitch.
