In one of the most expected deadline-day deals, Manuel Akanji joined Inter Milan from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, this last-gasp move could prove Inter’s most impactful signing of the summer.

When it looked like Inter had dropped the curtain on their transfer dealings, they snapped up Manuel Akanji.

Indeed, the Swiss center-back has moved to San Siro on loan with an option to buy, to replace Benjamin Pavard.

Manuel Akanji Could Be Major Coup for Inter Milan

Akanji has gained recognition for his versatility and tactical acumen, building a reputation as one of Europe’s top defenders.

Furthermore, Pep Guardiola often used the 30-year-old out of position, relying on his understanding of the game.

Indeed, Akanji can play anywhere alongside the defensive line.

Additionally, he is no stranger to a defensive midfielder’s role, considering Guardiola used to put him in the engine room.

More importantly, he has not been as prone to injuries as most of Inter’s defenders.

For context, he amassed 3,000+ minutes last season, more than any Nerazzurri backline player.
