Reports in the UK claim that Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has received his first England call-up in over six years.
The former Chelsea midfielder has reportedly been called up as a replacement for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, who picked up an injury during his side’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League over the weekend, according to updates from Sky Sports.
Though the switch has not yet been officially announced, it is understood that Thomas Tuchel has called Loftus-Cheek and asked him to join up with the Three Lions squad.
Loftus-Cheek has not been called up to the England squad since March 2019, and has not earned a cap for his national team in close to seven years, dating back to a friendly against the USA. He currently has 10 caps to his name.
The 29-year-old has started in each of Milan’s first two Serie A matches of the 2025-26 season, finding the net in the 2-0 victory over Lecce last weekend.
He has kept his place in the Milan line-up, despite Massimiliano Allegri and his team bringing in the likes of Luka Modric, Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci this summer transfer window . That is on top of the already-existing Youssouf Fofana and Yunus Musah (until deadline day). France international Adrien Rabiot has now also been added into the mix.
