Inter Milan have completed the deadline day signing of defender Manuel Akanji from Manchester City.
The Nerazzurri confirm the 30-year-old Swiss international’s arrival in an official announcement. This makes Akanji their fifth signing of the summer.
Inter have spent the summer searching for a defender.
The Nerazzurri missed out on major targets like Giovanni Leoni and Koni De Winter to Liverpool and AC Milan respectively.
In the last couple weeks of the transfer window, Inter have continued to search for opportunities in defense.
However, as the end of the window approached, it’s appeared that the Nerazzurri would not sign a defender.
However, on the final day of the transfer window, Inter have found the right opportunity.
Defender Manuel Akanji has been available. This as Manchester City have been looking to trim their squad, particularly in defense.
Therefore, Inter have seized the opportunity to sign the former Borussia Dortmund defender.
Inter have signed Akanji on an initial loan deal. Furthermore, this loan deal contains an option to sign Akanji on a permanent basis.
Inter do not officially announce the fee for Akanji.
However, reports indicate that the Nerazzurri will pay City a loan fee of around €1 million. Furthermore, the purchase option would be worth €15 million.
Additionally, the purchase option will become a mandatory obligation in the event that Inter win the Serie A title.
