One of the most coveted young footballers in the world is thought to be in the sights of Manchester City. Ibrahim Mbaye, who could leave PSG in the ongoing summer transfer window, is the Sky Blues’ latest target.

Having represented Senegal at the 2026 World Cup and with several clubs in pursuit of his signature, his stock is incredibly high at the moment.

According to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna on X (formerly Twitter), City have ‘added’ Mbaye to their list of targets this summer.

They’re not alone, though. Amongst the other clubs interested are Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, all of whom could pose a major challenge.

That’s not all, either. According to a report from SportsBoom back in May, Premier League champions Arsenal were also thought to be in the mix. Despite this, it was also stated that Arsenal were ‘unlikely’ to sign Mbaye during the current window.

Furthermore, a report from The Sun also states that Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested and could make a move for the youngster.

Mbaye also carries around some alleged baggage with him. He is represented by his family, who have reportedly made extravagant demands to PSG to keep him at the club.

These include the financing of several projects in Senegal (including a football academy and a hospital), 50% of all agent commissions and a private family box at the Parc de Princes, amongst other things [via The Touchline on X]. If he is taken on board, these issues will need to be addressed and ameliorated.

What would Ibrahim Mbaye bring to Manchester City?

What one may think of Ibrahim Mbaye’s attitude is ultimately subjective at this stage. We’re more interested in facts – such as his ability as a football player.

A rapid right winger with excellent dribbling and passing, Mbaye is an incredibly creative forward who can carry the ball or find key passes between the lines.

He is well-suited for counter-attacking football, on account of his electric pace, but his propensity for keeping the ball means that he could also function incredibly well in a possession-based system. To this end, he would most likely thrive under the stewardship of Enzo Maresca.

However, as is to be expected from such a young player, Mbaye still has a bit of developing to do at the highest level of the game. Namely, his end product is lacking at the moment.

As you can see, despite having made plenty of appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 last season, he only had five goal contributions to show for it. He also made four appearances in the Champions League, but failed to notch up any goals or assists at all.

This is customary for a young winger, though. Once he gains a bit more confidence in front of goal, he should start finding the back of the net with greater regularity.
