Gianluigi Donnarumma is ‘proud’ to have joined Manchester City and Pep Guardiola: ‘One of the greatest managers in the history of football.’

Manchester City confirmed the purchase of the Azzurri captain on Tuesday.

Donnarumma’s contract with PSG was due to expire in June 2026, but the Ligue 1 giants had already signed Lucas Chevalier to replace him.

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma told Manchester City’s official website.

“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football, Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.

“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years – so to now be able to play for the Club is a huge honour and a privilege.

“I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, the staff and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me.

“I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”

Donnarumma ‘excited to get started’ at Manchester City

The Azzurri captain added more on social media, saying that he was ‘excited to get started’ while Manchester City posted a video of the goalkeeper from the Italy training centre in Coverciano.

Donnarumma underwent medical tests in Florence on Monday, accompanied by his agent Enzo Raiola.

Football Italia understands that Donnarumma will earn €15m in the first year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. His salary will rise to €16m in the following two years and €17m in the last two years of his stay at the club.
