Manchester City loanee Manuel Akanji turned down AC Milan before joining Inter on deadline day.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, the 30-year-old could make his Nerazzurri debut against Juventus.

Cristian Chivu’s charges will take on their arch-rivals immediately after September’s international break.

Therefore, the latest edition of the famous Derby d’Italia will be a chance for Manuel Akanji to introduce himself to Serie A.

Moreover, there’s a good chance he could get the nod in defense ahead of Yann Bisseck.

Why Manuel Akanji Refused to Join AC Milan Before Signing for Inter

Regarded as one of Europe’s best defenders, Akanji had plenty of suitors during the summer transfer window.

Among them, Milan were the most concrete as they tried to lure him away from the Etihad Stadium in late August.

However, the Swiss center-back rejected their approach.

Indeed, Milan couldn’t offer Akanji a chance to play in the Champions League, which wasn’t the decisive factor.

Instead, it was Inter’s earlier approach that convinced Akanji to turn down the Rossoneri.

Now, he arrives at San Siro to replace Benjamin Pavard, who has joined Marseille on a season-long loan.
