Reports in Italy claim that Gian Piero Gasperini is looking at the possibility of bringing Gianluca Scamacca with him to Roma after their two-year spell together in Bergamo with Atalanta, which would also be a return to the striker’s boyhood club.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, Gasperini is keen on the idea of bringing Scamacca with him to the Stadio Olimpico.

The striker and coach have an excellent relationship, with Scamacca achieving his highest goalscoring season under Gasp (19 in all competitions in 2023-24).

Gasperini was also a guest at Scamacca’s wedding that took place last week, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the coach will have spoken about the possibility of a move to Roma among other topics during the celebrations.

Scamacca was born in the capital and also spent three years in the club’s youth academy as a teenager, before going on to sign for PSV in the Netherlands.

How much Scamacca will cost Roma

According to recent updates, Atalanta are prepared to entertain offers in the region of €25m or above.

Scamacca joined La Dea for a fee of €30m from West Ham United in the summer of 2023, and went on to enjoy his most productive season in front of goal under Gasperini at the Gewiss Stadium.

Scamacca tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during pre-season ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, which limited him to just one Serie A appearance before requiring surgery again to repair a tendon issue in his thigh, which ended his season.

Fortunately for Atalanta, a replacement was already brought in in the form of Italy international Mateo Retegui at the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

Retegui finished the 2024-25 campaign as the Capocannoniere with 25 goals in Serie A, which means that even if he is fit, Scamacca has an uphill battle in breaking back into the Atalanta starting line-up.

That is a large part of the reason why Atalanta would be prepared to part ways with Scamacca if an appropriate offer were to come in.
