Sunderland have completed the signing of striker Brian Brobbey from Dutch giants Ajax for a fee believed to be around €20 million. The deal was confirmed by Sunderland’s official website, safc.com.
The deal will allow Marc Guiu to return to Chelsea from his loan deal. Guiu scored against Huddersfield Town in the League Cup recently, but will now leave the Black Cats and return to London following the injury to the Blues’ striker Liam Delap.
Liverpool legend Virgil van Dijk once called his fellow Dutchman Brian Brobbey a “great talent”. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “I think he’s a great boy. He is a great talent and basically has everything. He is fast, strong and can finish well.”
Brian Brobbey has all the attributes that Sunderland will need to survive their first season back in the Premier League. A finisher who is strong, can hold the ball up under pressure, bring others into play, and assist others in scoring.
The 23-year-old is a full international and currently has 71 goals to his name. Here is a look at him in action, showcasing his abilities:
Speaking after signing his five-year-deal, new Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey spoke about his move to Wearside. He said : “It feels great to be a Sunderland player. I spoke with Nordi Mukiele, who I know from my time in RB Leipzig, and he told me about the Club, the fans, and how it feels like a family.
“I first talked with Sunderland over a month ago, and I have seen the stadium and the fans this season, and I can’t wait to be a part of that passion. It’s emotional to say goodbye to Ajax, as I grew up here and I’m going to miss everyone, but the Premier League is the biggest stage in the world, and I’m ready for this next chapter.”
