Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke is facing a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury

Thomas Frank suffered his first defeat as Tottenham Hotspur boss when his side were beaten 1-0 at home by Bournemouth last weekend.

Two wins is as many games meant the north Londoners headed to the Bournemouth game high in confidence. However, the Lilywhites were dealt a harsh reminder of the development that still needs to be made under the Danish tactician following their first loss of the Premier League campaign.

As far as their transfer business goes, Tottenham ended the summer window well by landing Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day. However, there has been a very different feeling around the club on Tuesday.

Dominic Solanke set to undergo ankle surgery

Spurs are no stranger to injuries as they endured a persistent crisis last season that stretched the squad to its limits and denied any momentum. Yet, former boss Ange Postecoglou managed to guide the club to the Europa League trophy.

The injury scenario hasn’t changed much this season either, as Thomas Frank is waiting to see a fully fit group of players available to him. Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Kota Takai have all been on the sidelines for some time now, and there is now a new entrant to the treatment room.

Dominic Solanke had missed the Bournemouth game due to an ankle injury. What has initially expected to be a minor setback, with a possible return to fitness just after the international break, has now developed into a bigger concern. According to The Sun journalist Jake Sanders on X, the Tottenham striker is facing a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle issue and could be forced to undergo surgery.

The 27-year-old missed the majority of pre-season with an ankle injury before returning to the bench against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. The England international has made three cameo appearances off the bench for Tottenham since, with Richarlison’s bright form limited his game time.

Spurs quickly acted to complete Kolo Muani deal

This is a big blow for Tottenham, as Solanke’s injury is more severe than first understood. Going under the knife would rule him out for a significant amount of time, but with the ankle issue bothering him since the start of last season, it appears to be the best option Solanke and the club have at this moment.

Tottenham officials got an idea about the significant nature of Solanke’s injury which prompted them to get Kolo Muani on loan on deadline day. Credit to the Hotspur Way chiefs to act quickly and bring in a potential replacement for the injured Solanke in the form of Kolo Muani. The Frenchman would compete with Richarlison for the No.9 role after the international break, hoping to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
