Tottenham unlikely to land exit-linked Premier League star; Reds block loan move on deadline day

Tottenham are likely to fail in their bid to land Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo this summer

Tottenham are still in the hunt for a new midfielder as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. The Lilywhites are keen to add a new #8 that could partner up with Joao Palhinha and Lucas Bergvall in the middle of the park. As of now, the North London club do not have enough manpower in midfield, and signing a new player is seen as a priority.

To make matters worse, James Maddison’s injury has also forced Spurs to be in the market to find a replacement. The England international ruptured his ACL earlier last month , forcing him out for most parts of the season. So, Daniel Levy is focused on bringing in a new midfielder that could either play as a #8, or an attacking midfielder for Thomas Frank.

The Lilywhites are also preparing for Yves Bissouma’s exit in the coming hours to free up space for a new player. The Mali international has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Frank, and has been informed that he must find a new club quickly. Experienced midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is also facing an uncertain future at N17, with his contract expiring next summer.

Too late for a summer miracle

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bolster their squad before the transfer window shuts shop in the coming hours. The Lilywhites need to add more manpower in the middle of the park to give Thomas Frank a solid chance of building on the Europa League success.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United. The England international has lost his way under Ruben Amorim, and has informed the Red Devils that he wants to leave the club on loan this season. The report also stated that the Lilywhites are willing to offer regular game time to the 20-year-old to lure him to N17.

However, there is a new update on the transfer saga involving the talented midfielder. As per Simon Stone (via X) , Manchester United are unlikely to sanction a move for Kobbie Mainoo to leave Old Trafford on deadline day. The Red Devils consider the England international a key part of the squad and want him to fight for his place. The journalist also adds that Ruben Amorim wants the 20-year-old to stay at M16 amid transfer links.

With time running out, Daniel Levy must consider alternatives instead if he plans to bolster the midfield for this season. Tottenham are looking at Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as a potential replacement of James Maddison. The England international could become available if the right offer comes in from Spurs, considering the PSR issues Villa are facing as of now.
