Why Man United missed out on cashing in on Andreas Pereira’s departure from Fulham

Manchester United have faced challenges in offloading players this summer. However, the club has still generated revenue through sell-on clauses from former players.

Ineos waited until late in the window before beginning their clear-out of unwanted players under Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea’s acquisition of Alejandro Garnacho for £40 million has partially mitigated the £197 million expenditure on four new players. However, the fates of Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, and Jadon Sancho remain uncertain.

Even with direct sales proving difficult, United have still managed to pull in around £25 million from previous sell-on clauses, offering a useful boost to their finances.

The latest player movement tied to a sell-on clause is Andreas Pereira. However, despite his transfer being completed, United won’t be receiving any payment from this deal.

Andreas Pereira, the former Manchester United midfielder, has returned to Brazil to sign for Palmeiras, as reported by BBC Sport.

Pereira joined Fulham in 2022 in a £10m deal that included a sell-on clause for United. That agreement gave them a 20% cut of any future profit made from his sale.

The specifics of the deal meant United would only receive money if Fulham sold him for more than they paid.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Brazilian moved for exactly the same fee he was bought for three years ago – meaning no profit was made, and no payment is due to United.

Man United’s potential £100m sales haul likely to come after the window

Amorim removed five players from his first-team squad earlier this summer, which has only made it harder for United to move them on.

With deadline day approaching, Ineos are now racing against time to cash in on several stars.

Hojlund is set to join Napoli on loan, with a mandatory buy clause of £38 million. However, United will not receive this payment until 2026. The same applies to Rashford’s £26m buy clause at Barcelona.

With Antony keen on a move to Real Betis, United might need to use a similar approach for the Brazilian winger.

If all goes according to plan, United could raise well over £100 million from these deals – but most of that income is unlikely to arrive anytime soon.
