Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to strengthen their defensive options with the signing of Jackson Tchatchoua from Hellas Verona. The deal, worth £10.3 million, has been agreed between the two clubs, with the player’s medical already booked for today, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Personal terms have also reportedly been agreed, so it should not be long until Tchatchoua is wearing Old Gold.
Tchatchoua, 23, has established himself as a dependable defender in Serie A, operating as both a right-back and a right wing-back. He has also made appearances at left-back. Last season, he made 36 appearances in Italy, chipping in with two goals and three assists for Verona. His athleticism and pace are his most notable attributes. Last season, it was reported he was the “unsung hero of Verona.”
He was also awarded Serie A’s Frecciarossa speed award, recording the league’s highest average top speed of 21.6mph, faster than any other player in Italy’s top flight.
Tchatchoua’s arrival would increase competition on Wolves’ right flank, where tactical flexibility is essential. He is capable of playing as a wing-back in a back five or a right-back in a back four, giving Vítor Pereira multiple options. His pace and forward drive could be crucial in transitions, especially in games where Wolves are looking to exploit the wide areas quickly.
With Pereira continuing his summer rebuild, Tchatchoua appears to fit Wolves’ current recruitment model of signing young players with high potential.
The final steps now are just the medical and contract signing. If completed without an issue, Tchatchoua will join up with his teammates with just one day until the first game of a new Premier League campaign.
