Zachary Damcevski officially joins Manchester United

Zachary Damcevski has officially joined Manchester United at a fascinating, if increasingly uncomfortable, point in the club’s season.

There was genuine optimism around Old Trafford during the summer.

Michael Carrick had earned the permanent job after steering United back into the Champions League, before significant money was spent strengthening his squad.

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans arrived first, while the £65 million signing of Carlos Baleba completed a dramatic midfield rebuild. Karl Darlow also joined to provide experience in goal.

Yet autumn has arrived quickly, and the sunshine of summer already feels distant.

United have won only one of their opening five Premier League matches. They lost the Manchester derby 1-0 despite City being reduced to ten men, then surrendered a two-goal lead in a painful 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.

Even Sunday’s trip to struggling Fulham brought little relief.

Matheus Cunha needed a heavily deflected late equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw, leaving Carrick under mounting pressure heading into the international break.

Amid that turbulence, another new arrival has confirmed he is beginning his own chapter at United.

New arrival begins Manchester United chapter

Damcevski revealed on LinkedIn that he has joined Manchester United as a Football Data Engineer.

He described the move as an opportunity to help “scale and grow” the use of data and artificial intelligence within United’s football department.

His LinkedIn profile shows he actually started the full-time position in June, meaning he has already spent around four months working behind the scenes at the club.

Damcevski previously worked as a Data Engineer at PortSwigger before moving to United.

Prior to that, he spent more than five years with Australian company Scalapay, progressing from a Data Science Intern to Data Engineer and eventually Senior Data Engineer.

His experience there included Python, SQL and artificial intelligence projects, including deploying an AI chatbot.

United’s problems on the pitch are currently commanding attention.

However, Damcevski’s arrival reflects the quieter work continuing behind the scenes as the club attempts to modernise its football operation.
