In the newest short film from Album, the surfing world’s most-famous birdwatcher / ageless style master and power surfer, Brenden “Margo” Margieson goes down to Mexico and kills two birds with one stone…or was it one roundhouse?

Wait, hold on, that’s not right. He did not kill any birds, rather, what we meant is that the trip provided a sweet two-for-one deal: a surf trip south of the border + an epic birding opportunity.

It all started with a visit to California during the first week of September. As many of you may (painfully) remember, early September wasn’t exactly pumping with surf, sure, finals day had some good waves but, other than that, forecasts were pretty bleak.

The Album crew has a soft spot in their hearts for the fabled right points of Southern Oaxaca so when Margo mentioned that he hadn’t been to Mexico in 25 years, well, flights were promptly booked.

Although there wasn’t much swell there either, “We had a blast. There was zero pressure–we were making the most of it. Matt (Parker) enjoys having Margo around, he’s just awesome to travel with, plus, Jon Arman on any trip is way too much fun; he just has a wonderful outlook on life.”

In addition to being home to some world-class waves, Oaxaca is home to the highest biodiversity in all of Mexico and, with that, nearly 800 bird species. This impressive list includes, yes, you guessed it, a Laughing Falcon.
