Carissa Moore, surfing’s darling, one of the best to ever do it, and five-time world champion, gave birth to her first child – a baby girl born on February 24th of this year.

Hence why she’s been absent from the World Surf League’s 2025 Championship Tour.

But Riss has been soaking it up with her hubby and their new bundle of joy - Olena Lililehua Untermann, now about six months old – and in a new clip, she shows the first waves she’s surfed with young (baby name) cruising on the nose of the board.

Riss captioned it: “These are the moments I once dreamed of. Grateful to be sharing waves and water time with my little family.”

Mama and daughter stroke into tiny waves in Hawaii, and Riss pops up to her knees, holding the baby tight, as they ride gentle waves to shore. Cue the cuteness overload.

In a previous interview, here on SURFER, Riss talked about the balancing act of becoming a mother and being a professional athlete. Here’s what she shared:

“As a female, if you want to procreate, you have to take a leave of absence at some point. I’ve watched many of the guys on tour start families and continue to compete. As women, it could be the end of pursuing what we love. I’ve witnessed friends become moms and lose sponsorships and support because they were no longer ‘marketable.’ These are sacrifices we have to consider.

“Thankfully, times are changing. More and more women are showing us you CAN do it all. You can be a badass mom and still chase your dreams. From Bethany Hamilton, to Kelia Moniz, Alex Morgan, Naomi Osaka and Allyson Felix, these women are redefining the norm of what it means to be a mother in sport. Knowing that there are women who have gone and done it before me gives me the faith and courage that I can do it too.”

And by the looks of it, and her daughter’s genes, this little one should be shredding alongside mama in no time. Remember that name: Olena Lililehua Untermann.
