“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” – Charles Darwin
While the father of evolutionary biology may have a point there, but that second bit, the one about intelligence (or lack thereof), definitely rings especially true in today’s society. For example, “death by selfie” is a real thing. Scores of people die each year, attempting to get a crazy clip for social media, yet ending up going under the ground versus viral.
The following people – in this compilation of folks tempting mother nature, getting way too close to the ocean in dangerous conditions, sneaker waves, etc. – might be candidates for that annual tally of selfie-related fatalities. Check out the lunacy below.

In addition to deaths by selfie, there’s something called the Darwin Awards, which: “Honor those who tip chlorine into our gene pool, by accidentally removing their own DNA from it during the spectacular climax of a 'great idea' gone veddy, veddy wrong.”
In other words, it’s a morbidly hysterical way to honor people dying in dumb ways.
A few of these clips above might qualify for the Darwin Awards, however, no casualties were reported in this particular collection of videos. It’s featured like an ESPN “Top 10” best plays compilation, but instead, there’s 22.
Personally, I think number 17 is the best, as a woman poses for a photo, two thumbs up, while a massive wall of water detonates behind her, and engulfs her.
And the best part about these humans acting stupidly amidst big waves? The comments. Some good ones include:
“Albert Einstein said: ‘two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe!’”
“People are the most intelligent creatures on the earth? Gotta question that one.”
Never underestimate the power of the ocean. Be safe out there.
