With midseason invitationals kicking off tomorrow at the SIU Performance Invite, it is time to take a look at the top three swimmers in each NCAA event heading into the next few weeks.

irginia swimmer Gretchen Walsh (Nashville, Tenn.) was named as the 2024-25 Academic All-American of the Year, as announced Wednesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Virginia star swimmer Gretchen Walsh won the prestigious Honda Cup as the top Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. The other two finalists were UConn basketball star Paige Bueckers and Texas Tech softball player NiJaree Canady.
PITTSBURGH — Pitt Panthers volleyball star Olivia Babcock has earned numerous honors and awards for her play last season, which have kept coming even into the summer.
Connor Shellenberger and Gretchen Walsh were both recognized as the University of Virginia’s top athletes at the 2024-2025 Hoos Choice Awards. Walsh received the IMP Award as the top female athlete, while Shellenberger took home the WINA Award as the top male athlete.
The year of Gretchen Walsh continues. Only one woman has ever swam the 200-yard butterfly in less than 48 seconds. Well, now that same woman just became the first to swim the 200-yard butterfly in less than 47 seconds.
Gretchen Walsh defended her title in the 50-yard freestyle and then matched her own NCAA record to lead off UVA's fourth-straight title in the 200-yard freestyle.
All things considered, it was a great year of swimming for Team USA as the Paris Olympics yielded plenty of gold in the pool (16 Gold medals to be exact).
