Aryna Sabalenka has been in blistering form at the US Open, powering her way into the quarterfinals where she will take on Marketa Vondrousova for a place in the semifinals. While her focus remains firmly on the tennis court, off it, the top seed has been building a unique connection with none other than Novak Djokovic.

In a recent interview, Sabalenka’s boyfriend, entrepreneur Georgios Frangulis, opened up about their growing bond with the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Frangulis, who recently invested in the French football club Le Mans, revealed that Djokovic himself joined the venture as a co-investor, alongside motorsport stars Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen.

“Novak has been an idol of mine forever, long before we became friends. I always admired him for his achievements,” Frangulis shared. “When the Le Mans opportunity came up, I decided to invest in the club and brought in some investors who made a lot of sense. Since we’re talking about sports investment, I’d say Novak is the GOAT standard in terms of mindset and sharpness as an athlete. He fell in love with the project immediately – it just made sense.”

Sabalenka, too, has been spending more time in conversation with the Serbian legend, often taking in his wisdom and advice. “She enjoys talking to him and learning from him, from the perspective of someone who has achieved so much,” Frangulis said. “They do talk, and in that relationship she’s more of a listener – and why wouldn’t she be, right? Any tennis player should be happy when talking to Novak.”

For Frangulis, Djokovic’s involvement is more than just financial. “I love being around Novak and learning from him. And I think it’s good for him, too. He’s been on a tennis court his whole life, so exploring new areas is exciting for him. He’s a great listener, very curious about business, politics, everything. That’s why any conversation with him is always engaging and fun.”

As Sabalenka continues her campaign in New York, the bond with Djokovic adds another layer to her journey – not just as a player chasing Grand Slam glory, but as someone eager to learn from one of the sport’s greatest champions.
