A clip of an incident that happened after Kamil Majchrzak‘s second-round clash at the US Open has gone viral. Majchrzak, a player from Poland, beat Hugo Dellien in the first round before upsetting ninth seed Karen Khachanov in a five-set battle on Thursday (August 28).
After the match, when Majchrzak was interacting with the fans on Court 11, he offered his hat to a young boy, but to the kid’s complete surprise, a man on the right side of him snatched the hat. The kid asked him repeatedly to give him the hat.
That man, as per several reports, is Piotr Szczerek, the Polish millionaire CEO of a paving company called Drogbruk. Amid intense criticism, the response from that man has been doing the rounds on social media.
The recent incident at the tennis match has caused a disproportionate online uproar. It’s all about the famous hat, of course. Yes, I took it. Yes, I did it quickly. But as I’ve always said, life is first come, first served.
But at the moment, the authenticity of the post cannot be verified. According to the post, Szczerek is also threatening to sue those who are criticizing him.
I understand some people might not like it, but please, let’s not make a global scandal out of the hat. It’s just a hat. If you were faster, you would have it. Regarding online hate, I remind you that insulting a public figure is subject to legal liability. All offensive comments, slander, and insinuations will be analyzed for the possibility of taking the matter to court.
Majchrzak, after beating Khachanov, gave the walkover to Leandro Riedi in the third round. He later revealed he had torn an intercostal muscle.
After the hat snatching incident, Kamil Majchrzak took to Instagram stories to share a clip where he shook hands with two boys and gave them gifts.
Today, after warm up, I had a nice meeting Do you recognize [hat emoticon]?

Majchrzak also shared a picture where he could be seen standing beside the boy, who also wore the hat given by the 29-year-old.

Prior to this, Majchrzak told New York Post that he initially had no idea that the kid did not get the hat. Majchrzak also confirmed that Piotr Szczerek is the CEO of Drogbruk. Following this incident, Szczerek disabled comments on his social media accounts, as per reports.
Obviously, it was some kind of confusion. I was pointing, giving the hat, but I had a lot going on after my match, after being super tired and super excited for the win. I just missed it. I had like a dead look if you know what I mean. I’m sure the guy was also acting in the moment of heat, in the moment of emotions.
Majchrzak has never clinched a title in singles or doubles. He has played the main draw matches of every Grand Slam tournament. His best Major performance came this year at Wimbledon as he made the fourth round, losing in straight sets to Karen Khachanov. At the US Open, the Pole played a third-round match for the second time in his career after the 2019 season.
Majchrzak, the World No.76, achieved his best rankings in 2022 when he stood on the 75th spot. He has also played doubles in Majors and reached the first round of the French Open and the second round of Wimbledon in 2022. So far in his career, he has won just one match against a top 10 player (against Khachanov).
