With two interesting match-ups and four star names, there should be no shortage of entertaining tennis on the second day and final day of quarterfinal action at the US Open. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for both matches and all the action in the men’s draw – but who will reach the semifinals in New York?

US Open Quarterfinal Predictions

Iga Swiatek vs Amanda Anisimova

Zain: A rematch of the Wimbledon final, where Iga Swiatek famously trashed Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0. This contest should be more competitive. The American will have the crowd behind her, she won’t carry the nerves of facing Swiatek for the first time, and she should have a clearer idea of how to approach the matchup. Still, Swiatek’s heavy topspin game constantly tests an opponent’s movement and legs, an area where Anisimova will always struggle to keep up with. Expect the Pole to reach another major semifinal, though not without a tough battle in the quarters.

Prediction: Swiatek in 3

Ilemona: Swiatek has been tested in New York, but her ability to play her best tennis in the key moments has carried her through. This matchup is a repeat of their Wimbledon final, where Swiatek handed Anisimova a double bagel in their very first meeting. The American has been sharper on hard courts since then, with her aggressive baseline game clicking well in the last two rounds. Still, the mental weight of that lopsided loss looms large, and overturning such recent history will require something extraordinary.

Prediction: Swiatek in 2

Nurein: The Wimbledon final was the worst possible matchup for Anisimova who had yet to face Swiatek in a tour-level match before then and was competing in his first Grand Slam final. She completely capitulated. And there is never a good time to face the Pole particularly when she’s playing with so much authority from behind the baseline. Expect Anisimova to keep things watertight before Swiatek wears her down.

Prediction: Swiatek in 3

Jordan: I expect this to be a very different contest to the Wimbledon final. Anisimova will not be as nervous, and having the backing of a home crowd is always helpful. I think the American is more likely to expose Swiatek’s vulnerability against pace (despite the Pole improving considerably in that area) on a hard court, and am predicting her to cause an upset after a match that goes to the wire.

Naomi Osaka vs Karolina Muchova

Zain: Hard court Slams have missed Naomi Osaka, but now she looks to be back. Up next is a trilogy matchup on this stage against Karolina Muchova. Muchova claimed their meeting in New York last year, while Osaka got her revenge in Melbourne earlier this year. That was before Osaka was truly “back.” This time, expect her big hitting to find a way through Muchova’s web of creativity once again, with the Czech player’s physical durability also a potential factor. All signs point to a relatively straightforward win for the former world No. 1, to me.

Prediction: Osaka in 2

Ilemona: Osaka has battled through a tricky draw, showing both grit and flashes of the devastating power that made her a two-time champion in New York. Muchova brings a completely different challenge with her mix of variety, touch, and ability to turn defense into attack, traits that have carried her deep into majors before. It feels like a contest where momentum shifts could decide the outcome, and neither player will give ground easily.

Prediction: Osaka in 3

Nurein: Osaka has converted every single quarterfinal at a Grand Slam into a title win and it will be interesting to see if that pattern continues. One thing about the Japanese star is that her confidence will be sky high after that majestic win over former US Open champion Coco Gauff. Muchova might also believe that this could be her moment for a Grand Slam breakthrough, but expect Osaka, who has looked sharp and composed all tournament, to prevail.

Prediction: Osaka in 2

Jordan: Muchova has toiled much more than Osaka to reach this stage, winning four matches that went to a deciding set. The Czech will use more variety than Coco Gauff did to try to knock the Japanese star out of rhythm. Muchova definitely has a chance, but Osaka is playing her best tennis since the 2020 US Open, making it tough to go against her.

Prediction: Osaka in 3
