Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez continued their incredible run at the 2025 US Open on Monday by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova and Shuai Zhang in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Williams, 45, has been showcasing her resiliency all summer long. After losing a heartbreaking three-set match to Karolina Muchova, she teamed up with Fernandez and immediately had success in doubles.

"Our energy really matched each other in terms of determination, in terms of not giving up, in terms of really still just focused and dialed in in every single thing," Williams explained. "That felt amazing because I never really played with a partner — outside of Serena, obviously — who had that kind of mentality, so it was really fun."

Speaking of Serena, she was called out by her sister following Monday's win at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Back in July, Williams admit at the Citi Open that she wanted her sister to come out of retirement for a doubles reunion. They haven't shared the court together since the 2022 U.S. Open.

Serena and Venus won 14 Grand Slam titles together from 1999-2016. Their last doubles championship came at Wimbledon.

While we won't be getting a Serena and Venus pairing in New York, the latter made it clear that she'd like to see her sister at Louis Armstrong this Tuesday for her quarterfinal match against Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková.

"She’s so happy for Leylah and I and she’s given us advice," Williams said. "We just need her in the [player ’s] box. My message is: Serena, you need to show up."

Will Serena show up to Tuesday's quarterfinal?

Serena has been locked in on Venus' comeback, make no mistake about it. She posted a heartfelt message on Instagram following her sister's loss to Muchova.

"Strength, courage, determination, class, perseverance, inspiration… there’s not enough words to describe how proud I am of you," Serena wrote. "P.S. I hope to be like you."

If Serena shows up to the US Open this Tuesday, there'll be a palpable buzz on the grounds in Flushing. She's just that beloved in the Big Apple.

As of now, Williams and Fernandez are set to take on Townsend and Siniakova at 4 p.m. ET.
