Mega Evolution was one of the coolest things to happen to Pokémon since sliced bread (or should I say, sliced Farfetch’d?). But like all good things in the Pokémon universe, Game Freak decided to shelve it faster than a Snorlax hitting the pillow. While we’re all waiting for Pokémon Legends Z-A to potentially bring back this beloved mechanic, there are some pocket monsters out there practically begging for their mega moment.
You know the feeling – you’re looking at your favorite Pokémon and thinking, “Man, if only you could get a sick mega form, you’d be unstoppable.” Well, grab your Poké Balls because we’re diving into five Pokémon that deserve mega evolutions so badly, it’s almost criminal they don’t have them yet.
Poor Flygon. This Ground/Dragon type has been living in the shadow of its more popular cousins for years. While Salamence got a mega evolution that made it look like it could bench press a Steelix, Flygon has been stuck with the same design since Ruby and Sapphire.
The “Mystic Pokemon” has such untapped potential, it’s not even funny. Imagine a Mega Flygon with enhanced speed and special attack, maybe gaining some Wind-themed abilities that could make it the ultimate sandstorm sweeper. Its signature move, Dragon Rush, could actually become viable instead of just being there for looks. Game Freak, we’re literally throwing ideas at you for free here.
Don’t get me wrong – Dragonite is already a powerhouse. But when you look at what happened to Charizard (getting not one, but TWO mega evolutions), it’s pretty clear that our friendly orange dragon got the short end of the stick.
Mega Dragonite could embrace its reputation as the “delivery Pokemon” with enhanced Hurricane attacks and maybe even a signature ability that boosts its already impressive bulk. Picture this beast with Multiscale and even better defensive stats – it would be the ultimate wall that hits back harder than your disappointment when you realize there’s no new Pokémon game this year.
Milotic is supposed to be the most beautiful Pokémon ever, but honestly? It’s been looking a bit dated lately. This Water-type serpent has the stats to compete, but lacks that extra oomph that a mega evolution could provide.
A Mega Milotic could lean into its rivalry with Gyarados (who, surprise, surprise, already has a mega form). Enhanced special attack and maybe a Fairy typing addition could make it the premier special tank it was always meant to be. Plus, imagine how gorgeous a mega form could look – we’re talking about a Pokémon that’s literally known for its beauty here.
Okay, hear me out on this one. Tropius is basically a flying banana tree, and yes, that sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud. But this Grass/Flying type has so much personality that it hurts to see it relegated to “that Pokémon you catch once and forget about.”
Mega Tropius could finally give this gentle giant the respect it deserves. Enhanced stats across the board, maybe a signature ability that relates to its fruit-bearing nature, and definitely a design that makes it look less like a kids’ drawing and more like the majestic creature it should be. Come on, Game Freak – even the meme Pokémon deserve love.
Here’s a Pokémon that’s been dealing with an identity crisis since day one. Golduck looks psychic, acts psychic in the anime, but is just a Water type in the games. Talk about mixed signals.
A mega evolution could finally give Golduck the Water/Psychic typing it’s been teasing us with for decades. Enhanced special attack and psychic abilities would make this duck the formidable opponent it was always meant to be. Plus, it would finally explain why it looks like it’s constantly concentrating really hard on something.
The truth is, while we wait for Game Freak to remember that Mega Evolution exists, these Pokémon will keep being overshadowed by their mega-evolved peers. But hey, at least we can dream about what could have been – or what still might be, if Pokémon Legends Z-A delivers on its promises.
