We’ve had Nintendo Directs for third-party games, indie games, and Kirby’s Air Riders in the last several weeks. However, it’s been a while since there’s been a general Nintendo Direct for Nintendo’s first-party games. Since we still want to believe that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is coming this year, it’s high time for Nintendo to give us some information. Well, we might be getting a new Nintendo Direct this month.
Nintendo Life claims that several sources point to a Direct in September, possibly on the 12th. These sources include social media posts by SwitchForce and VGC. In addition, Nate the Hate, a podcaster who has accurately picked out Direct dates several times, has made an X post stating that there will definitely be a Direct this month. However, Nintendo themselves has yet to comment one way or the other at the time of this article’s writing.
We still need a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While Nintendo claims that they are committed to a 2025 release, we still don’t have an actual date. We also still don’t have a release date for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. If there is a Direct this month, it can be expected that both games will be featured, along with Kirby’s Air Riders.
In addition, Mario himself turns forty this month. Super Mario Bros was released in Japan on the Famicom on September 13th, 1985. Given that Nintendo held a huge celebration for Mario’s 35th anniversary, releasing Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 35, and other goodies, we can expect something similar for the 40th anniversary. In fact, we can probably expect an even bigger celebration.
Should we believe the rumors? Like all rumors, we shouldn’t rely on them being true. However, given that there hasn’t been a general first-party Nintendo Direct in months, it is reasonable to think that there will be another one soon. Add in how Nintendo has several first-party games coming soon, plus Mario turning forty, and there are plenty of reasons to have a Direct this month. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the rumors are true.
