After a messy MSI series between FlyQuest and G2 Esports, the LCK and LPL first seeds delivered, as GenG Esports and Anyone’s Legend went back and forth. Both showed why they are considered the best teams in the world, but it was GenG who had the final say in this MSI series.

The Grubs fight is as even as possible, 1 for 1 on the Grubs and 3 for 3 in kills. AL finds two more kills in the follow-up. AL is thriving in the scrappy team fights. GenG’s macro appears suspicious, as they offer two towers to AL for one Drake. Hope is always ready to dive in on Kai’Sa and, in every fight, puts pressure on Ruler. GenG is nowhere in the team fights, and AL gives them no room to breathe. They dive onto Ruler time and time again. At 27 minutes, they forced another dive onto Ruler, which is the vital fight to win the game.

Summary
No team finds any kills in the early game, but GenG has a slight gold lead. The combination of Azir and Nocturne ultimates gives Canyon the first blood kill. With the scaling composition, GenG slows down the game. They do not allow AL to fight without losing on the map. G2 gets the gold and Drake advantage, being soul point at 20 minutes. GenG also earns Atakan, further building their lead. GenG secures Hextech’s soul. AL forces Baron as their last hope. They get the objective, but four players die. GenG catches AL and ends the game to tie up the series.

Summary
Canyon dives Flandre for first blood in the second consecutive game. The Grubs are a vital component in this series, and AL gets the objective and the kills. GenG’s dive in the second Drake fight is effective, but they can not stop Shanks, leading to a trade in kills. The Rift Herald goes to AL, but GenG does not allow them to get it for free. AL denies soul point and secures the Atakan after Shanks catches an out-of-position Ruler. Once Kiin gets Guardian Angel, GenG wins the Soul Point fight and goes to Baron. The push from the Korean first seed wins the game.

Summary
The Caitlyn Karma lane gets a slight advantage but is counteracted by Smolder’s lead. Tarzan kills Duro to lessen the impact of GenG’s bot lane. AL secures the Grubs, but Chovy and Canyon catch Kael on the exit. GenG is stacking Drakes early, putting a timer on the Smolder scaling. AL engages Ruler on the Infernal Soul point to win the fight and deny the Drake stacking.
GenG sneaks Atakan while AL is in base. GenG’s composition lacks damage, as they can not get a kill to win fights against a fully stacked Smolder. AL breaks open the game with a Baron take. Chovy goes for a Hail Mary engagement on AL, but they kill no one. AL wins and takes the series to Silver Scrapes.

Summary
The early game goes in GenG’s favor with Canyone getting the first blood kill on Shanks. The Grubs are contested again, but this time it is GenG that gets most of the objective and ends with three kills. Off Duro’s hook on Hope, GenG wins the Drake fight to build a significant gold lead. GenG over forces into AL’s jungle to set up for Rift Herald, but it is Shanks who cleans up the fight.
GenG’s perfect team fighting returns as they take down AL step by step to get the third Drake and Atakan. AL dives Kiin, but GenG uses the time to burn down Baron with Ryze and Xayah. Duro’s outstanding hook on Tarzan allows GenG to win the Ocean Soul fight. They skip the Drake and move to end the series, progressing in MSI.
AL showed that there chinks in the armor of GenG. Particularly when it came to AL forcing GenG into uncomfortable positions in fights or the draft. GenG, they have not shown the same level of dominance as the Regular Season, but with their display in game five, they seem to be improving as the games progress at MSI. GenG awaits the victor of T1 and BLG, while AL faces the winner of CTBC Flying Oyster and Movistar KOI.
