With the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the WNBA and the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) set to expire in October, negotiations are underway for a new deal.
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been vocal about players finally getting what they deserve as the league has grown significantly over the past couple of seasons.
"I got to get in the [CBA] meetings because I’m hearing, ‘If y’all don’t give us what we want, we sitting out,'" Reese said in March during an episode of her podcast "Unapologetically Angel."
As it stands, it certainly looks like the players could sit out as the WNBA’s current offer hasn’t come close to meeting their expectations. Even Phoenix Mercury star Satou Sabally called it a "slap in the face."
Meanwhile, Reese took to social media on Thursday to share some old photos from her birthday back in May. In them, she flexed her outfit, which featured a red dress.
"some inspiration in case you forgot ," Reese captioned the post.
Many people left comments on the post, including Seattle Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike, who also serves as president of the WNBPA. Ogwumike's comment featured no words, but rather a simple emoji.
"," Ogwumike said.
Ogwumike has served as the WNBPA president since 2016 and has been instrumental in the CBA negotiations with the league.
The 6-foot-2 forward was selected No. 1 overall in the 2012 draft by the Los Angeles Sparks where she spent 12 seasons before joining the Seattle Storm ahead of the 2024 season.
Ogwumike is a WNBA champion and 10-time All-Star and has earned seven All-WNBA selections. She was named league MVP in 2016 after averaging 19.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
